India’s UltraTech deploys 100 EV trucks in Logistics Fleet

India’s largest cement and ready-mix concrete company, UltraTech, has become India’s first company to deploy Electric Trucks into its logistics fleet for long route.

The company has been running pilot under “green initiative” since January 2024. During the pilot, UltraTech deployed five electric trucks for transport of clinker from its integrated cement manufacturing unit Dhar Cement Works, located in Madhya Pradesh, to its grinding unit Dhule Cement Works, located in Maharashtra. The Total Distance between the units in Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh is approx. 400 kms for a roundtrip.

As per UltraTech press release , UltraTech has signed a new transport service contract for deployment of about 100 electric vehicles (EV Trucks) for the transportation of 75,000 Metric Tonnes (MT) of clinker per month From Dhar Cement Works, Madhya Pradesh, to  Dhule Cement Works, Maharashtra. After the deployment, company has estimated to help reduce transport emissions by 17,000 MT of CO2 annually.

As per press release, UltraTech is planning to deploy 500 additional electric trucks by June 2025 as part of the Government of India’s eFAST initiative and aim to Net Carbon Zero goal by 2050.

UltraTech is also evaluating additional routes for deployment of more EV trucks with pilot for two additional units coming live soon.
