APM Terminals, a division of Maersk, has officially taken a 49 percent minority shareholder and operating partner position in the Hai Phong International Container Terminal.

Located within the Lach Huyen port in Haiphong City, this North Vietnam facility offers direct access to Hanoi and the surrounding northern industrial regions.
Developed in partnership with Vietnam’s Hateco over just 30 months, the facility was dedicated in July 2025.
The deep water port features two new berths totaling 900 meters in length. It is fully equipped to accommodate massive container vessels with capacities up to 18,000 TEUs.
To maintain some of the highest berth productivities in the region, the terminal’s initial phase utilises five ship to shore (STS) cranes and 14 rubber tire gantry (RTG) cranes.
This acquisition marks APM’s second major terminal investment in Vietnam. The company is already heavily involved in the Cai Mep International Terminal located in the south near Ho Chi Minh City. Like Hai Phong, the Cai Mep facility is capable of handling 18,000 TEU vessels (up to 214,000 dwt) and currently boasts a total capacity of 2.1 million TEU.
This latest expansion follows a period of massive growth for AP Moller Maersk’s terminal operations. In 2025, the Terminals sector reported its strongest financial performance to date.
Driven by record high cargo volumes, improved rates, and higher storage revenue, total terminal revenues surged by 20 percent, further solidifying the company’s position as a global leader in critical port infrastructure.
