FedEx and Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) have trail blazed on a fully automated air cargo hub. Backed by a ₹2,500 crore long-term investment, the facility is being developed in partnership with Adani Airport Holdings Ltd. (AAHL) to serve as a major consolidation and redistribution gateway for Western India.

The new 300,000 sq. ft. hub will leverage NMIA’s multimodal connectivity, taking advantage of its close proximity to Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPA) and critical industrial corridors.

  • Automation: The site will feature advanced sorting systems, dimensional scanning, high-speed screening, and dedicated freighter parking bays.
  • Capacity Expansion: NMIA’s cargo infrastructure will launch with an initial annual handling capacity of 0.5 million metric tonnes (MMT), scaling up to 3.25 MMT in its final phase.
  • Employment: Once operational, the hub is projected to create over 6,000 direct and indirect jobs across logistics, warehousing, and transport.

The FedEx facility is designed to simultaneously process inbound and outbound shipments, significantly improving transit time predictability.

Ceremony drew key industry and government figures, including Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, FedEx CEO Raj Subramaniam, and AAHL Director Jeet Adani.

“This development reflects NMIA’s long-term vision of building integrated infrastructure that strengthens India’s trade competitiveness,” noted Jeet Adani, emphasizing the airport’s evolution into a global logistics gateway.

Kami Viswanathan, President of FedEx MEISA, highlighted the operational impact: “Establishing this hub at NMIA allows us to integrate global network strength with India’s fastest-growing trade corridor, providing greater certainty, speed, and efficiency to customers.”
