Maersk has officially taken delivery of the Tangier Maersk. This is the first vessel in a new series of six mid-size containerships, marking a key step in the company’s fleet renewal program.

The delivery took place at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group’s shipyard in Jingjiang, China, three months ahead of schedule. Each of the six vessels in this series features a capacity of 9,000 TEU and comes equipped with a dual-fuel engine capable of operating on methanol.

“We are pleased to take delivery of Tangier Maersk. Together with the remaining vessels in the series, it will contribute to our ongoing fleet renewal and support our long-term competitiveness,” said Anda Cristescu, Head of Chartering and Newbuilding at Maersk.

On its maiden voyage, Tangier Maersk will call at Shanghai before entering service on Maersk’s TP15 loop, which connects East Asia with the US Gulf Coast via the Panama Canal.

Maersk plans to take delivery of four additional vessels later this year, with the final ship scheduled for early 2027.
