Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR) and Frankfurt Airport (FRA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen air cargo connectivity between South India and Europe.

Announced at Air Cargo India, the partnership links one of India’s fastest-growing manufacturing and export regions with a premier European logistics hub.

The agreement establishes a structured collaboration framework designed to improve the speed and reliability of the India-Europe trade lane. Key focus areas include:

  • Joint trade lane analytics
  • Digital corridor development
  • Knowledge exchange
  • Standardizing pharmaceutical cargo integrity

By aligning their operational standards, both airports aim to enhance shipment visibility, drastically reduce cargo dwell times, and provide more predictable service levels for airlines, shippers, and freight forwarders.

Girish Nair, Chief Operating Officer of Bangalore International Airport (BIAL), emphasized that the MoU is a strategic move toward data-driven cargo ecosystems. “As BLR Airport continues to invest heavily in cargo infrastructure, technology, and capability development, collaborations like this help convert these investments into efficient and scalable trade lanes,” Nair stated.

From the European side, Alexander Laukenmann, Fraport’s Senior Executive Vice President Aviation, noted that the partnership serves as a cornerstone of the Frankfurt Cargo Hub Masterplan, which is designed to actively shape the future of international goods traffic.

The timing of this collaboration is highly strategic. With the recently concluded EU-India Free Trade Agreement (FTA) expected to accelerate bilateral trade.
