DP World launching a dedicated carbon inset trial Starting 1 April, for ocean freight forwarding customers in Belgium, Portugal and Sweden.

The program is designed to deliver immediate, measurable reductions in Scope 3 emissions across key European trade lanes.
How does the program work?
Qualifying customers earn credits at no extra cost. First, they must reach a baseline threshold of 25 TEUs per quarter. Once they hit this mark, DP World awards 100 kg of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) credits per containerized TEU shipped.
Insets vs. Offsets:
DP World carbon insets differ significantly from traditional carbon offsets. Offsets usually fund external environmental projects, such as planting trees.
Insets, however, reduce emissions directly within the logistics value chain. To generate these credits, DP World Shipping Solutions proactively uses lower-carbon fuels in its daily operations.
John Trenchard, VP of Sustainable International Supply Chains for Europe, noted that addressing residual emissions on ocean legs requires a pragmatic, holistic approach.
“Providing customers with multiple solutions to enable the decarbonisation of supply chains is important to DP World,” Trenchard said. “I would encourage organisations to explore how carbon insets can be used as part of intentional progress.”
Building on Proven Success:
Insetify was built on the proven framework of DP World’s existing Carbon Inset Programme operating in the UK ports of Southampton and London Gateway, Launched in January 2025.
The launch of the European trial coincides with DP World’s freight forwarding expansion into Scandinavia, marked by the opening of new offices in Stockholm and Gothenburg.
