India’s Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal suggested lifting the ban on certain varieties of non-basmati rice. However, it will depend on the assessment of production, consumption patterns and prices in retail and wholesale markets.

Indian Government has banned exports of non-basmati white rice since last year (20 July 2023) to stabilise domestic supply demand.
