The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has officially taken the Lila Jamnagar into class. As a 298,997 DWT Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC), it is now one of the largest vessels operating under the Indian flag.

Owned by RFK Shipping IFSC Private Limited and operated through the Lila Global platform, the Lila Jamnagar holds a unique position in the market. It is the very first Indian flagged VLCC to be structured and registered through the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).
Classing a vessel of this size proves the capability of the IRS to deliver high level technical services for large, complex ships engaged in worldwide energy transportation.
The IRS will support the Lila Jamnagar throughout its entire operational lifecycle, ensuring strict compliance with international standards governing safety, structural integrity, and operational performance.
P K Mishra, Managing Director of IRS, emphasized the strategic importance of this development for the broader maritime sector.
“India’s aspiration to expand its merchant fleet and strengthen energy transportation capabilities requires robust technical oversight and globally recognised standards,” Mishra stated. “The classification of Lila Jamnagar demonstrates IRS’s ability to support large tanker operations while contributing to the growth of India’s maritime ecosystem.”
