MSC has officially updated its Emergency Fuel Surcharge (EFS) for multiple short sea and regional trade lanes. The revised surcharge impacts routes connecting Northern Europe (including the UK and ScanBaltic regions), the North East Mediterranean, and the Black Sea.

The updated EFS will take effect on April 6, 2026, based on the Bill of Lading (B/L) date, and will remain in place until further notice. Shippers moving cargo across these intra Europe and Mediterranean lanes must adjust their freight budgets to account for the new fees.
The new EFS applies to both dry and reefer cargo. Below is the updated rate structure detailed in USD, EUR, and GBP per TEU:
| Trade Route | Dry Cargo (USD / EUR / GBP) | Reefer Cargo (USD / EUR / GBP) |
| NWC, UK, ScanBaltic ↔ Greece, Turkey, Adriatic, Black Sea | 97 / 84 / 72 | 145 / 126 / 109 |
| NWC, UK ↔ Biscay, N. Spain, Portugal | 44 / 38 / 33 | 66 / 57 / 50 |
| ScanBaltic ↔ Biscay, N. Spain, Portugal | 89 / 77 / n/a | 133 / 115 / n/a |
| NWC, UK, ScanBaltic ↔ NWC, UK, ScanBaltic | 67 / 58 / 50 | 100 / 87 / 75 |
| Greece, Turkey, Black Sea ↔ Greece, Turkey, Black Sea | 106 / 91 / n/a | 158 / 137 / n/a |
MSC confirmed that all other standard freight charges and shipping conditions remain unchanged.
