AD Ports Group has officially signed a Heads of Terms (HoT) agreement to develop and operate a multipurpose terminal at Matadi Port in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).

The deal was signed in Abu Dhabi by AD Ports Group CEO Captain Mohamed Juma Al Shamisi and DRC Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Jean-Pierre Bemba Gombo. It establishes a partnership with ONATRA SA (the National Transport Office) to modernize one of the country’s most critical maritime gateways.

They want to overhaul the terminal’s operational efficiency. By upgrading the infrastructure, the partners aim to streamline import/export flows and handle the DRC’s growing trade volumes.

As Captain Al Shamisi noted, the DRC is a strategic pivot point for the continent:

  • Regional Hub: The DRC is bordered by nine other countries, making it a natural hub for cross-border connectivity.
  • Global Access: The partnership focuses on linking these regional markets to global trade lanes more effectively.

This move aligns with AD Ports’ broader strategy to support long-term economic development and infrastructure growth across Africa.
