Godby Shipping has confirmed an order for two new Stream RoRo 1700 vessels from CIMC Raffles in China, with options for two additional ships. The deal, finalized on February 11, 2026, is part of the company’s strategy to renew its fleet and meet future environmental standards.

The newbuildings will be significant upgrades in capacity while maintaining a compact footprint:

  • Dimensions: 125 meters in length, 24 meters beam.
  • Capacity: 1,700 lane meters (approx. 6,200 metric tons).
  • Cargo Handling: Stern ramp and fixed ramps connecting three cargo decks.
  • Cargo Types: Trailers, cassettes, cars, forest products, containers, and certain dangerous goods.

Developed with Technolog Services in Hamburg, the Stream RoRo concept emphasizes fuel efficiency. Despite offering 70–100% greater cargo capacity than Godby’s current vessels (Mimer and Midas), the new ships are designed to maintain similar fuel consumption levels.

Key environmental features include:

  • Shore power & battery systems: Enabling emission free port stays.
  • Future-proofing: Prepared for methanol fuel and waste heat recovery.
  • Ice Class: Built to Finnish/Swedish Ice Class 1A standards.

Construction is set to begin in June 2027, with the first vessel delivery expected in September 2028 and the second in January 2029.
