The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has hit a major milestone, setting a new all-time high for container and overall cargo throughput.

From April 2025 through February 2026, India’s premier container gateway handled 7,426,214 TEUs and 92.85 million metric tonnes (MMT) of total cargo. This performance easily surpasses the previous record of 7,301,509 TEUs and 92.12 MMT handled during the exact same period last year.

The port’s sustained growth trajectory is heavily supported by a strong showing in February 2026. According to JNPA’s latest traffic data, the port handled 668,363 TEUs of containers in February alone an 8.47% year-over-year increase compared to the 616,164 TEUs moved in February 2025.

Total cargo throughput for the month also saw a double-digit bump, hitting 8.35 MMT to register a 10.51% increase over February of the previous year.

Port officials attribute this record breaking volume to several operational upgrades across JNPA’s container terminals. Improved operational efficiency, enhanced physical port infrastructure, and streamlined logistics processes have allowed the facility to keep pace with the growing demands of international maritime trade.

Established in 1989 near Mumbai, JNPA continues to leverage its extensive rail and road connectivity to link global shipping lanes with India’s major industrial and consumption centers across the hinterland.
