MacGregor has secured a significant contract to supply cargo access solutions and deck machinery for four new major vessels under BC Ferries’ fleet renewal program. The order was booked in the first quarter of 2026.

The vessels will be constructed by China Merchants Industry at the CMI Weihai Shipyard. Once delivered, the 172-metre ships will serve BC Ferries’ busiest routes between Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
The new ships feature:
- Propulsion: Diesel-battery hybrid systems (all-electric-ready).
- Design: Low-noise propellers to reduce environmental impact and protect marine life.
- Capacity: Standardized designs to speed up loading and unloading, meeting rising passenger demand.
MacGregor will deliver a comprehensive equipment package aimed at ensuring long-term reliability:
- Cargo Access Equipment: Ramps and doors designed for efficient vehicle flow.
- Deck Machinery: Supplied via MacGregor’s joint venture.
- Support: A full Integrated Logistic Support (ILS) package to ensure high availability throughout the vessels’ lifecycle.
Nicolas Jimenez, President and CEO of BC Ferries, emphasized the strategic fit: “Our goal is to build a ferry system that is reliable, sustainable, and ready for future growth. MacGregor’s commitment helps us deliver a modern ferry experience.”
Magnus Sjöberg, EVP of Merchant Solutions at MacGregor, noted that the order confirms their ability to deliver tailored solutions through close collaboration.
