Kalmar has secured a significant order from Maher Terminals LLC for 30 hybrid straddle carriers. These units are set for deployment at Maher’s facility in the Port of New York and New Jersey (PANYNJ).

The order was officially booked in Kalmar’s Q4 2025 intake. Manufacturing is underway, with final deliveries scheduled for Q4 2026.

This acquisition is part of Maher’s broader fleet renewal program, maintaining a total operational fleet of over 270 Kalmar straddle carriers.

Each new machine will feature the Kalmar Collision Warning System. Developed in partnership with Maher Terminals, this system uses visual and audible alarms to alert operators to potential hazards. Trials for this technology began in 2022, and Maher plans to retrofit its entire fleet in the coming years.

The shift to hybrid technology aligns with Maher’s environmental goals. Lou Allora, Chief Engineer at Maher Terminals, emphasized that refreshing the fleet is a logical step toward net-zero emissions.

“The hybrid machines will help us to reduce fuel consumption and local emissions in addition to improving safety and comfort for our ILA operators,” Allora stated, noting the 40-year partnership between the two companies.

Troy Thompson, Head of Sales at Kalmar Americas, added that the order reinforces Maher’s reputation for maintaining one of the youngest and most efficient equipment fleets in North America.
