MSC Group has officially signed a 45 year concession agreement with Nigerdock to develop a state of the art container terminal at Snake Island Port (SIP) in Lagos, Nigeria. To execute the build, MSC finalized an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contract with ITB Nigeria Ltd. and DEME Group.

This terminal development is a core component of MSC Group’s broader commitment to Nigeria’s infrastructure and logistics sector, an investment totaling over USD 1 billion.

Terminal Specifications and Capacity:

  • 910 Meter Quay: Fully equipped to operate Ship to Shore (STS) cranes and Mobile Harbor Cranes (MHC).
  • 30 Hectare Yard: Built with potential expansion areas and designed to utilize hybrid Rubber Tired Gantries (RTG).
  • Scalable Dredging Depth: The initial dredging depth is set at -16.5 m Chart Datum (CD) to align with the existing navigation channel.

MSC Group views this project as a reflection of Nigeria’s pivotal role in the region and its evolving status as a major global shipping hub.

Diego Aponte, President of MSC Group, noted that completing this key phase with Nigerdock and other partners demonstrates the carrier’s commitment to the African market. “The new terminal will open up opportunities, enhance efficiency, and elevate Snake Island Port as a major global shipping center,” Aponte stated. “Together with our Group’s other long term investments in Nigeria, it will generate many local jobs and significantly increase economic revenue and resilience.”
