Maersk has announced a new Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for cargo moving from key Asian origins to destinations in India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka. The surcharge is effective February 25, 2026, and will remain in place until further notice.

The surcharge applies to cargo originating from China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, Hong Kong China, Taiwan China, South Korea and Timor Leste.
The charge specifically targets shipments to Nepal and Sri Lanka, as well as the Indian ports of Kattupalli and Visakhapatnam.
The carrier will apply a flat fee of USD 300 per container across all container types.
Calculation Dates The surcharge application depends on the booking type and trade regulations:
- Spot Bookings: Based on the estimated time of departure (ETD) of the first vessel at the time of booking confirmation.
- Non-Spot Bookings (Non-FMC): Based on the scheduled departure date of the first water leg.
- Non-Spot Bookings (FMC Trades): Based on the last container gate-in date.
This PSS is subject to other applicable local and contingency charges. Maersk confirmed that these rates do not override tariffs filed in accordance with local regulatory requirements.
