Valenciaport has taken a major step toward modernizing its border control.the port received the new infrastructure module that will serve as a support point for the Ministry of Interior. Installation of the control equipment has already begun.

This project, with a budget of €584,767.59, is co-financed by the European Union through the European Internal Security Fund and seeks to strengthen border security at the ports of Valencia and Sagunto.

This facility will help manage migration flows while providing the tools to detect and investigate serious crimes, including terrorism.

The container installed at the Port of Valencia will house this equipment.

The Tech: EES and ETIAS The physical container is designed for efficiency featuring thermal insulation, large windows, and specialized furniture but the real story is the software inside. The facility is equipped to handle two critical European systems:

  • EES (Entry and Exit System): This records entry and exit data and flags refusal of access for third-country nationals crossing external borders.
  • ETIAS (Travel Information and Authorization System): This assesses whether a traveler poses a security or health risk before they even arrive, managing travel authorizations accordingly.

To make this work on the ground, the project includes the rollout of new verification, monitoring, and registration tablets, ensuring the process is fast and secure for legitimate travelers.
