Fundacion Valenciaport has launched CustomAI, a new initiative designed to upgrade how customs inspections work. In collaboration with the Spanish Tax Agency (AEAT), the Guardia Civil, and 18 other European partners, the project is bringing Artificial Intelligence directly to the border.

The core goal of CustomAI is to improve the accuracy of customs controls across the EU. Specifically, the team wants to drastically reduce “false positives” in cargo inspections.

CustomAI will integrate robust, non-intrusive technologies to identify high-risk shipments, balancing security with streamlined border procedures.

Central to the initiative is the creation of a Virtual Custom Control Operations (VCCO) centre, a digital hub to manage inspections of goods, containers, and packages. Fundacion Valenciaport will coordinate with law enforcement agencies to define key operational requirements.

Led by Legind Technologies, the effort has a budget exceeding €3 million and is co-financed by CINEA (European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency).
