Kongsberg Discovery has announced a major upgrade to its Kongsberg Listen electromagnetic sensor system.

The update is designed to improve inspections, surveys, and data collection in complex underwater environments across the ocean science, defense, energy, and marine mineral sectors.
Previously known as Argeo Listen, Kongsberg acquired the underlying electromagnetic sensing technology and its specialist team in August 2025. Since the acquisition, Kongsberg has focused on integrating the system into its broader portfolio and accelerating its hardware and software development.
The platform agnostic system has already been successfully deployed on Kongsberg’s HUGIN autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), yielding strong results in commercial surveys.
Following these tests, the company has officially commenced the commercial rollout. The upgraded system will make its trade show debut under the Kongsberg Listen name at the Oceanology International event in London next month.
According to Audun Berg, EVP of Kongsberg Discovery, the upgrades deliver clearer and more precise results while simplifying overall operations. This allows operators to move significantly faster from data collection to final analysis.
During testing on HUGIN AUVs, the system was successfully utilized for:
- Pipeline inspection
- Cathodic protection evaluation
- Marine mineral exploration
- Buried cable positioning
A major part of the upgrade is the integration of the system’s software into Kongsberg’s Blue Insight ecosystem.
This allows the system to support end to end workflows processing raw electromagnetic data and delivering client-ready information all within a single environment.
Designed for flexible deployment, operators can install the Listen system on AUVs, Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs), and various towed platforms.
