Tallink’s shuttle ships on the busy Tallinn Helsinki route are making a rapid shift toward cleaner fuel. The company recently reported that in January, 74% of the fuel used by its key vessels, Megastar and MyStar, was liquefied biomethane (LBM).

100% Renewable While the ships were originally designed for LNG, Tallink is moving fast to replace its entire LNG demand with LBM.

“The Megastar and MyStar, which operate with the busiest schedule between Tallinn and Helsinki, are real examples of how cleaner maritime transport is not just a topic for the future, but a reality today. By switching to biofuel, we have created the greenest bridge across the Gulf of Finland,” said Paavo Nõgene, CEO of Tallink Grupp.

Emissions Drop: A complete transition reduces GHG emissions by an estimated 75% compared to fossil fuels, helping Tallink meet strict EU and IMO targets.

Certified Supply: The fuel is supplied by Elenger, and every delivery comes with official certificates. For freight companies closely monitoring their own environmental footprint (Scope 3 emissions), having verified renewable data is a major asset.
