Ganga Expressway Opens: 594-km Route Boosts UP Logistics and Exports

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Ganga Expressway in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh. Completed in under five years, the
594-kilometre access controlled greenfield project is now the country’s longest green corridor expressway.

Spanning 12 districts from Meerut in western Uttar Pradesh to Prayagraj in the east, the expressway serves as a critical artery linking the National Capital Region’s (NCR) economic base to the broader state.

Connecting Agricultural and Manufacturing Supply Chains

A major priority of the Ganga Expressway is improving agricultural logistics. Historically, farmers in the region faced severe challenges reaching major markets due to inadequate road infrastructure and a lack of cold storage facilities. The new expressway provides a high-speed route to bridge this gap, ensuring perishable goods can move efficiently to distribution and export hubs.

Additionally, the route is designed to support heavy industry. The state is developing dedicated industrial corridors in districts like Hardoi to attract manufacturing clusters. Targeted sectors for these export-heavy hubs include:

  • Pharmaceuticals

  • Textiles and handlooms

  • Leather goods

  • Handicrafts

Aligning Road, Air, and Tech Infrastructure

The Ganga Expressway is a core component of Uttar Pradesh’s strategy to become a one trillion dollar economy. The road network directly complements the state’s broader industrial and aviation expansions, providing logistics operators with a more integrated multimodal network.

Key regional developments supported by the expressway include:

  • Aviation Expansion: Uttar Pradesh is expanding its aviation network to a planned 21 airports, including five international facilities. Notably, the newly inaugurated Noida International Airport is located just hours from the Ganga Expressway corridor, offering a direct link for air freight.

  • Tech and Defense Manufacturing: The expressway improves connectivity to major industrial projects, including UP’s established mobile manufacturing hubs, a newly groundbroken semiconductor facility in Noida, and one of India’s two designated defence corridors.

By drastically cutting transit times between manufacturing centers, agricultural zones, and international transit hubs, the Ganga Expressway establishes a much needed foundation for scaled EXIM operations in Uttar Pradesh.
