A.P. Moller – Maersk has appointed Company Stalwart Charles van der Steene as its new Regional Managing Director for the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East & Africa (IMEA), effective 1 January 2026.
The Indian Subcontinent, the Middle East & Africa (IMEA) is an important trade route that is both resource-rich and heavily populated. Charles van der Steene, a 15-year Maersk and logistics industry veteran, appointed, showing Maersk’s long-term commitment to the strategic trade route.

A University of Chicago alum, Charles started his corporate journey at DHL as a logistics engineer and went on to work with Panalpina World Transport, reaching the position of managing director before joining Maersk in 2011. In Maersk, he has headed multiple regions in different roles.
Before the elevation as Regional Managing Director, He previously worked in the IMEA region from 2016 to 2019 as regional CEO for this territory for DAMCO (Maersk’s supply chain and logistics arm, which was integrated into Maersk in 2020), including heading Sales & Marketing in North America and, most recently, leading the North America Region
