CMA CGM has announced a major restructuring of its shipping network connecting the Indian Subcontinent and the Middle East with East Africa.

Taking effect in March 2026, the network overhaul is designed to optimize port coverage across Somalia, Kenya, Tanzania, and Mozambique while improving schedule reliability and transit times for regional shippers.

For cargo moving from the Indian Subcontinent and Middle East to East African hub ports, the SWAX service will now act as the primary routing option.

This consolidated loop focuses on delivering enhanced reliability and broader port coverage specifically for the major gateways of Mombasa, Kenya, and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.

The KARIBU service is being upgraded to provide stronger weekly coverage for Somalia and the surrounding Indian Ocean islands.

  • New Port Calls: The rotation now directly includes the Seychelles.
  • Continued Service: The loop maintains its standard calls at Mauritius, Reunion, Madagascar, and Mayotte.
  • Routing Updates: Zanzibar will now be served via Lamu, alongside a strengthened operational focus on the broader Somali market.

To optimize routing for southern East Africa, CMA CGM is launching the KANIMAMBO service. This brand new, weekly loop is dedicated exclusively to handling Mozambique-bound cargo.

By routing all origin shipments through the Colombo hub, the KANIMAMBO service improves overall network synchronization with existing Indian Subcontinent loops and cuts regional transit times.
