Hamburg based shipowner Ernst Russ has acquired two multi-purpose vessels, the MV Ronnie and MV Charlie. The acquisition is part of the company’s long-term fleet strategy to increase its footprint in the highly specialized project cargo segment and secure predictable future earnings.

Scheduled for handover in the first quarter of 2026, both ships are modern F500-type multi-purpose vessels built between 2021 and 2022.

  • Capacity: Each vessel offers approximately 12,500 deadweight tonnes (DWT).
  • Cranes: The ships are equipped with two onboard Liebherr cranes capable of executing tandem lifts of up to 500 tonnes.

This heavy-lift configuration allows the vessels to efficiently transport complex project cargo alongside conventional bulk and general cargoes. According to Ernst Russ, adding these modern units actively supports fleet rejuvenation and long-term operational sustainability.

Joseph Schuchmann, Co-CEO and Chief Commercial Officer at Ernst Russ, noted that the current market environment makes this a highly strategic move. “With this deal, we are further sharpening our portfolio and increasing our exposure in an attractive segment. The current market environment, with limited supply and robust demand, provides a solid foundation for sustainable earnings,” Schuchmann stated.
