Fincantieri has officially launched the Viking Libra at its Ancona shipyard. Built for Viking, the vessel is scheduled for delivery at the end of 2026.

The Viking Libra will be powered by an advanced hydrogen based propulsion system utilizing liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells. This setup enables zero emission operations, allowing the ship to navigate safely through environmentally sensitive maritime areas without burning conventional bunker fuel.
The vessel features a gross tonnage of roughly 54,300 tons and a length of 239 meters. Once operational, it will accommodate up to 998 passengers across 499 staterooms.
This launch highlights a long standing shipbuilding collaboration between Fincantieri and Viking that dates back to 2012. Including vessels already delivered, signed contracts, and recent options, the partnership now accounts for a total of 26 ships.
The Ancona shipyard remains a central hub in Fincantieri’s industrial network. Supported by a workforce of roughly 3,700 employees, the yard has delivered more than 20 ships since 2009. The 360,000 square meter facility currently boasts:
- Production capacity of 60,000 gross tons
- Lifting systems capable of 500 tons
- Hull construction capacity of approximately 1,200 tons
Fincantieri plans further investments to expand production capacity at the site. To improve overall efficiency and working conditions, the Ancona yard is also integrating advanced technologies, robotics, and artificial intelligence under the company’s Operations Excellence program.
