Indian Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has officially approved a Rs 132.51 crore road over bridge project at the Deendayal Port Authority in Kandla. The bridge will be constructed at level crossing LC 235 by Western Railway on a deposit basis as part of the Sagarmala programme.

The primary goal of the road over bridge is to eliminate a grade crossing that has long acted as a severe bottleneck for cargo trucks and rail movements in and out of the port.

This infrastructure upgrade is highly timely. Kandla recorded a massive 160.11 million metric tonnes of cargo in FY26. With the port handling growing volumes of liquid bulk, fertilizers, and renewable energy project cargo, efficient landside evacuation routes are essential to keep freight moving without delays.

The Kandla project is one of three major infrastructure developments announced this week, signaling India’s dual focus on long term logistics growth and managing immediate supply chain shocks like the ongoing Hormuz disruption.
