The CMA CGM Group and Gemadept have officially launched Phase 2 of the Gemalink container terminal in Cai Mep, southern Vietnam. This project strengthens a critical trade gateway in Southeast Asia and provides much needed infrastructure to support growing regional supply chains.

Since opening in 2021, the Gemalink terminal has operated at full capacity, handling 1.7 million TEUs annually and ranking among the most efficient terminals in Vietnam’s Vung Tau region. To accommodate surging import and export volumes along these major shipping routes, Phase 2 will increase the terminal’s total capacity to 3 million TEUs by 2027.
The physical port expansion includes:
A 450 meter quay extension
A yard expansion from 32 to 44 hectares
The addition of five new ship to shore cranes, bringing the terminal’s total to 13
CMA CGM holds a 25 percent stake in Gemalink, making this investment a major step in expanding its physical port capacity across Southeast Asia.
Christine Cabau Woehrel, Executive Vice President of Operations and Assets at CMA CGM, noted that this expansion highlights the group’s long term commitment to its partnership with Gemadept. She added that the project will firmly strengthen Vietnam’s role in global supply chains and support the country’s ambition to become a leading logistics hub by 2050.

This terminal expansion aligns perfectly with CMA CGM’s broader regional strategy. Operating in Vietnam since 1989, the group currently runs 29 weekly ocean freight services across seven ports.
Operations are supported by CEVA Logistics and a network of offices in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Haiphong, Danang, and Quy Nhon.
