Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has confirmed a massive new contract with Carnival Corporation’s Princess Cruises. Valued at over $2.3 billion (€2 billion), the order includes the construction of three new large cruise ships, further extending the maritime industry’s record breaking passenger vessel orderbook.

The new Voyager class ships will represent the largest and most advanced platform in the Princess fleet. Key specifications include:

  • Gross Tonnage: Approximately 183,000 tons (a 3 percent size increase over recent sister ships).

  • Passenger Capacity: 4,700 in lower berths (a 9 percent capacity increase).

  • Fuel: Dual fuel powered, running primarily on Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

These will be Carnival Corporation’s 19th, 20th, and 21st LNG based vessels. Building upon the recently developed Sphere Class platform, the ships will feature completely reimagined staterooms and outer decks tailored to global deployments.

The vessels are slated for completion in late 2035, 2038, and 2039.

Construction will take place at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Monfalcone, Italy. Pierroberto Folgiero, CEO and Managing Director of Fincantieri, noted that these orders secure a robust workload for the shipyards through 2039 and solidify the company’s role as a trusted industrial partner in next generation, sustainable shipbuilding.

This $2.3 billion contract highlights immense long term confidence within the passenger shipping sector. According to recent data from Seatrade Cruise, the global cruise ship orderbook has already reached a record $86 billion across 76 firm orders.
