A high level Japanese delegation recently met with the Chairman of the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) in Kandla to explore new avenues for collaboration in shipbuilding and ship repair. This visit marks a significant step in reinforcing the growing maritime partnership between India and Japan.

DPA Chairman Shri Sushil Kumar Singh presented a comprehensive overview of the port’s upcoming infrastructure and maritime development projects.
Discussions between the two groups covered several critical areas for potential collaboration, including:
Technology transfers
Capacity building
Sustainable shipbuilding practices
Investment opportunities in modern shipyard infrastructure
Both sides expressed a strong interest in leveraging Japanese expertise in advanced maritime technologies to support efficient, port led industrial development.
To evaluate the physical potential of the region, the delegation conducted detailed site inspections at proposed shipyard locations in Kandla and Veera. These visits provided the Japanese team with firsthand insights into the area’s strategic advantages, such as direct hinterland access, strong connectivity, and the vast availability of land required for large scale maritime projects.
